Ruth joined Speak Up in 2012. Over the years, she’s sold thousands of magazines (she says “it feels like millions”), impacted hundreds of readers, made many dozens of friends, and spread light and love throughout the city of Charlotte.
When asked to describe herself, Ruth said, “I love people, animals, and babies.”
Ruth is a talent artist. She has published nearly a half dozen coloring books with Speak Up and promises more to come.
She’s currently safely housed—out of the cycle of homelessness—thanks to a network of supportive friends and her partnership with Speak Up.
Her Speak Up income—from selling magazines and digital subscriptions—is critical for her everyday living expenses.

This is Ruth
Hi Ruth, I met you last week at Rhino Market selling magazines and your cards. I told you about my brother, who is homeless living in a tent right now and I’m trying to help him out. I told him about selling copies of speak up and he’s interested and willing to do the work. I think this would be a great opportunity for him to make some money and hopefully get some support. I’m trying to get him plugged in to some social services so he can get back on his feet. Is there a phone number he can call to get set up? Thanks so much for your help.
